Winners & Losers: AEW Dynamite 02.19.20

This week on AEW programming we are into the post-Riho era of the women’s division, which saw a big star returning to our screens and an interesting three-way confrontation over the AEW Women’s World Championship. There was a few decent happenings on AEW Dark so a little bit about that first. The show featured two … Read more

Winners & Losers: NXT 02.19.20

Several things were unpacked on this week’s NXT from TakeOver: Portland. The rivalry is still going strong between Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox. General Manager William Regal announced that the Street Fight wasn’t the end for these two former best friends. They will battle in a steel cage in two weeks.

The addition of Raquel Gonzalez at Kai’s side presents a new element. If they treat them as equals then this could go somewhere as a team, but more than likely Gonzalez will turn into the bodyguard. Gonzalez admits that her helping Kai on Sunday was a way to show her empathy as she knows what it likes to feel alone and left out.

The NXT Women’s Champion was not on the show this week which seemed weird as her WrestleMania opponent had so much to say on RAW. They did show a clip of her reaction after Charlotte Flair jumped her in Portland. The last piece of the puzzle to follow up with is Bianca Belair.

Belair interrupted the match between Chelsea Green and Kayden Carter to give a message to Flair. Essentially she states that she warned Flair to not stick her nose in NXT’s business. Since she did, now Belair wants a match with Flair. She states it doesn’t matter when or where, but she wants Flair.

Speaking of the match between Green and Carter, this was the only women’s match of the night. This is where NXT lacked this week. Only one women’s match was a let down. The roster has over 20 women plus at least a dozen more from the performance center that could be used on this show. There is no reason to only have one match.

Moving on to the match itself, it seemed very clunky. Personally, I don’t feel that Carter and Green have the same styles and mesh the best together. There was a move where Carter slipped on the ropes, but Green did take advantage of it to continue the momentum of the match. Carter has more of a fast paced in-ring style whereas Green is more technical.

The rematch made sense but it feels like it was just to fix that Green lost her first match as a part of this “Robert Stone Brand” pairing. Creative must have realized that her losing that match didn’t make sense.

The idea isn’t bad for this “brand” but there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make it work or it will just flop. Besides Belair’s interruption, Stone would interject himself by knocking Carter off her feet. This allowed Green to capitalize and hit the Unprettier for the win.

Let’s discuss the Winners & Losers from this unflattering week.

WINNER: Chelsea Green

Although the “Robert Stone Brand” idea doesn’t seem to be taking off to a roaring start, at least Chelsea received some retribution. The “re-launch” was a success but we shouldn’t be getting a re-launch already.

There appears to be a disconnect with where this is going. Hopefully it either picks up soon or maybe we can just reunite VXT and have them in the tag team division where they should have been by now.

WINNER: Bianca Belair

She interrupted the match. She called out Charlotte Flair. She is still being utilized at the top. Winner.

LOSER: Kayden Carter

Kayden losing does nothing for her but to put over Chelsea which could have happened the first time. We could have been moved on from this by now. Kayden needs to have matches with someone like a Kacy Catanzaro where the two can really show out.

Jazz vs. Ivelisse at Ladies Night Out 5 – 02.23.19

On this week’s Free Match Friday we continue what was started last week and that is to celebrate Black History Month. Last week we revisited WWE Hall of Famer Jacqueline’s win of the Cruiserweight Championship that took place nearly 16-years ago. This week will be a more recent match, but it highlights one of the best in the business – Jazz.

The match that you can view above is from the Ladies Night Out 5 event that took place last year. This is an event that is about to have their 9th installment and is hosted by Reality of Wrestling.

In this match it was Jazz taking on Ivelisse in a Falls Count Anywhere match. The action spilled out all around ringside with a short trip to the stage. Weapons were used throughout such as chairs, a ladder, and cable cords.

In the end though, Jazz would fall victim to Ivelisse after a distraction caused by Barbi Hayden who was on commentary. Jazz would taunt Hayden who then would hop on the ring apron and deliver a punch. Ivelisse capitalizes and hits a DDT on a chair. She rolls up Jazz for the win.

Ruby Riott opens up about her return to RAW in backstage video

Ruby Riott returned to RAW last Monday night and attacked her former Riott Squad comrade – Liv Morgan. Riott returned from a bilateral shoulder injury that had her out of action since right after WrestleMania in April. Two surgeries later, Riott is right back where she belongs, in a WWE ring.

WWE released a video, that you can view above, of her return from a personal and backstage point of view. She first discusses her surgeries and how now she has the full range of motion with her shoulders. The torn labrums she had were 10-years old.

Riott opens up and gets emotional over what leaving wrestling for 10 months meant to her. She states that she suffers from anxiety, depression, and ADHD. As a result of not being in the ring and on the go constantly, she states that she no longer had a distraction from those things during her time off. She had to face them and sought help through a therapist.

She further explains that she feels incredible and that she is ready to use wrestling as her purpose as opposed to a distraction. The video ends with what we saw on Monday and her betrayal on Liv Morgan.

Alexa Bliss is now a rock song

Yes, you read that right, Alexa Bliss is now a rock song. Bliss has announced that she is not only featured in the new music video for the American band, Bowling For Soup, but the song is actually named, “Alexa Bliss.”

Bowling four Soup, as their band name suggests, are known for their humor and wit when it comes to their lyrics. “Alexa Bliss” is no exception. The song includes nods to her Twisted Bliss finisher, sleeper holds, and even her cheating ways in the ring. It has a clever chorus that reads, “Hey – why can’t every girl be more like Alexa Bliss. Hey – how could a chick on TV make me feel like this.”

BFS is said to be one of Bliss’ favorite bands. They are known for their hit singles in the early 2000s such as “Girl All The Bad Guys Want” and “1985.”

You can view the behind the scenes of their music video below. The music video itself can be seen in the header above.

Jacqueline vs. Chavo Guerrero -Cruiserweight Title 05/06/04

For this month’s Free Match Friday’s, in honor of Black History Month, Diva Dirt is going to feature Black women in the industry. To kick things off will be a classic match that was history-making before making history was the cool thing to do. The match is Jacqueline challenging Chavo Guerrero for the Cruiserweight Championship.

Setting up the moment was Guerrero in the ring with his father, Chavo Sr. As the current Cruiserweight Champion at the time, he issued an open challenge. He stressed that this person could be literally anyone who wanted a crack at the title. He even would state it is him against the world.

What Guerrero (as well as everyone else) didn’t expect was Jacqueline to answer his challenge. Guerrero seemingly cocky throughout the match didn’t take her as a serious opponent and that cost him. After a low blow by Jacqueline when the referee was distracted by Chavo Sr., she rolled him up and over into a pin to get the three count. The crowd erupted and we had the first-ever female Cruiserweight Champion.

Sadly, Jacqueline would only go on to hold the title for about 12-days and lost it back to Guerrero at the Judgement Day pay-per-view. She would be released the following month prior to heading to TNA. She was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2016.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 01/31/20

Friday Night SmackDown was dubbed “Super” this week, but it had its moment where it wasn’t so super. This is mainly in reference to the only match of the night. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross took on Fire & Desire for what feels like the hundredth time. What makes matters even worse is I don’t think we know why they are wrestling each other, to begin with.

These two teams have had their fair share of feuds in the past, but this one has literally zero storyline. They have been having matches against each other for weeks now and no one knows why. The main story is actually between Mandy Rose and Otis. After all, she did get a date with Otis set for Valentine’s Day.

https://twitter.com/WWE_MandyRose/status/1223450464680923136?s=20

Fire & Desire suffer another loss after a short match between the two teams. Michael Cole repeatedly said that whoever wins may have a chance at the Women’s Tag Team Titles against The Kabuki Warriors. A match hasn’t been made official, but at least we are starting to talk about the tag titles again. Rose would take the pin after a neckbreaker by Cross sets up Bliss to deliver the Twisted Bliss.

Despite the one win Rose picked up on Bliss a couple weeks ago, this is the same result week after week.

Now on to a better moment of the night. Naomi has returned! That’s right, Naomi, who returned at the Royal Rumble, is now back on the blue brand. The SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley was out in the ring first. She was gloating about her win against Lacey Evans at the Royal Rumble.

She goes on and on about how much of a role model she is and how she has beaten everyone there is to beat. Expecting Charlotte Flair to pick her to face at WrestleMania, she calls out the Queen but gets the Glow instead.

Naomi’s music hits and her entrance had a new fresh element to it. She heads to the ring with an EDM Fishbowl placed upon her head. Once she enters the ring, she states that she could stand in the back with Bayley spilling lies. She reminded Bayley that she hasn’t beaten her when she so boldly stated she has defeated everyone.

Bayley would attack Naomi, but the Glow Queen would get the last laugh as she lays out the champion who winds up on the floor at ringside.

It looks like Naomi is going to be the next challenger for Bayley. This could very well just be a one-off at Elimination Chamber, or perhaps they will continue this through WrestleMania.

WINNER: Naomi

Naomi is the clear winner this week. She has made her long-awaited return and seemingly has claimed her spot in the title picture. The former two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion can use this title match/feud and so do the fans. Both SmackDown and RAW have been rather stagnant with the same talent being used and recycled storylines. This seems fresh between Naomi and Bayley and I am ready for it.

LOSERS: Fire & Desire

Unfortunately for Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, they continue to end up on the losers list. The only thing that would make either one a winner would be Rose securing a date with Otis. As much as I love these two together, the best thing may be to try them out as singles competitors. I do hope they can win the tag titles before they are broken up though.

Final Thoughts:

It is good to hear the tag team titles being talked about again, but we need more teams. Having Bliss and Cross go right back at the titles when they are the ones who lost them to the Kabuki Warriors is just recycling again.

Overall SmackDown has a similar problem that RAW has. The same few women used every week. For several weeks at least SmackDown was using every member of their roster, but now we are back to the same few (minus the inclusion of Naomi). Bring back, Dana Brooke. Where is Carmella? Let’s fix this.

Also can we start having more matches? If NXT can have two to three matches a week consistently then so can SmackDown and RAW.

I really think they may be ready to move a few NXT talent over. Hopefully this happens around WrestleMania time. Top picks to move over are Shayna Baszler, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, and Candice LeRae. It would be nice to see those who haven’t won the NXT Championship to do so, but I don’t see Rhea Ripley dropping the title anytime soon.
