Exclusive: Wrestling’s Newest Siren Reby Sky Speaks on MTV2?s Lucha Libre USA

Allow us to officially introduce you to wrestling’s newest siren: Reby Sky. This 23-year-old bombshell is best known for her work as a model — credits include Playboy — but she’s also a huge sports fan, particularly pro wrestling. Reby has already dabbled in the industry, co-hosting Sirius XM’s Busted Open every Wednesday, but tomorrow night she begins a new journey as backstage interviewer and commentator for MTV2’s Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors.

With the premiere of the new series just 24 hours away, we caught up with Reby — who, quite wisely, is a fan of Diva Dirt *cough* — to get all the scoop on her exciting new role! Read all about it below…

How did you get involved in Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors?
I was covering an indy wrestling convention in New York and got the chance to interview Marco Corleone (Mark Jindrak of WCW, WWE). In the interview he told me about his experience wrestling in Mexico and gave me the scoop on his newest project: a lucha libre show for MTV2. A few weeks later, I got an email from a producer over at MTV asking me to fly in for an on-camera tryout, saying Marco had recommended me for the show. Needless to say, I was shocked! I actually cancelled an already booked trip to Paris for the tryout and thank goodness I did, because I’m so excited to be on board for this show!

What is your role on the show?
I’m a backstage interviewer and color commentator for the matches.

In your own words, as a fellow wrestling fan, what can we look forward to with this show?
Definitely a different pace of action. It’s nice to see more than just a little tease of the high-flying lucha libre style for a change. The guys genuinely have a passion for the business and that comes through in their matches. I follow a lot of wrestling and have never seen some of the things these guys can do. With rudos, technicos, chicastars, minis and everything in between (exoticos!), there’s something for everyone to enjoy and plenty of surprises to keep you glued to your TV.

We are extremely excited to welcome a new addition to the team who will provide even more of an insight into the world of women’s wrestling for our readers — Dann Read, the promoter of Europe’s Pro-Wrestling: EVE. Dann will contribute a weekly audio series ‘The Inside Track’, giving readers a promoter’s eye view into the booking of the WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts, as well as spotlighting independent women’s wrestling and wrestlers.

Read the press release:

Pro-Wrestling:EVE and Diva-Dirt.com are joining forces as Diva Dirt continues to lead the way in providing news exclusive content on the female wrestling industry.

EVE Producer Dann Read has joined the Diva Dirt team and will be producing content for the successful website that will see him answering questions, giving his views, opinions, talking about who he would hire and who he wouldn’t hire and why that is, why some of our favourite television wrestling programs do things the way they do while also exposing some of the truths and problems of the expansion and exposure of the female wrestling scene – all from the point of view and rationale of being a wrestling promoter.

Dann commented “Diva Dirt is a real success story in the world of female-wrestling and the continued success and expansion of the site is a real testament to hard work, time and effort that everyone behind it are putting in. As a promoter of female wrestling it’s always great to see people go to such effort to help further the scene and I’m really pleased to be on board with the staff of Diva Dirt and look forward to working with them soon.

Dann continued “I’m also really looking forward to being able to publicly say some of the things that I feel need to be said while at the same time hopefully being able to explain some of the many confusing goings on in the wrestling world as it relates to the female scene. Unfortunately they’re not always answers we want to hear and I’m sure some people aren’t going to be too keen on what I have to say but I promise to give you a promoters view on what the real truth is and I personally can’t wait to begin!”

Dann joins an ever growing list of content providers to Diva Dirt such as former WWE Diva Katie Lea, Shimmer star Allison Danger, Kristin Astara and The Sun and FSM female wrestling correspondents Stew & Lee of The Women Of Wrestling Podcast to name just a few.

Stay tuned to www.EVEwrestling.com and www.Diva-Dirt.com for details on when this brand new content will begin to go live.

ROH Recap (July 5th, 2010): Daizee Haze vs Jamilia Craft

In this edition of the ROH Recap, we have 18 year old “Jumping” Jamilia Craft going up against seasoned veteran Daizee Haze. Watch below:

This match starts off with Jamilia already waiting in the ring wearing her Macho Man-esque gear while Daizee makes her entrance.

The women shake hands in the middle of the ring before referee Bryce Remsburg orders for the bell. Daizee tries to engage a lock up with her opponent, but Jamilia has other things on her mind as she does a front roll. The two women circle a ring for a few more seconds before Daizee initiates the first move by securing a waist lock and then converting to a wrist lock before forcing Jamilia down on to her back. While she has Jamilia on the mat, Daizee begins to knee her in the arm while still latching on to her wrist.

Daizee sits Jamilia back up and begins to wrench her arm. Jamilia stands back up momentarily, but Daizee takes her down quickly with a hip toss. Daizee continues to work Jamilia’s arm by instilling an arm bar. Jamilia make her way back up again and again Daizee takes her down by the arm, but this time she locks her in a head scissors. Jamilia tries to use her legs to thrust out of it, but despite her efforts Daizee keeps the submission secured.

Complete Results from Third Annual WSU Uncensored Rumble

WSU held its third annual Uncensored Rumble event this past Saturday in New Jersey headlined by a 22-woman over the top Rumble match with the winner earning a shot at the WSU Championship. Full results below courtesy of WSU Wrestling:

On Saturday, June 26th, WSU presented “The Third Annual Uncensored Rumble” event, featuring the much hyped WSU World Title Prize Fight between WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez & #1 Contender Alicia. Other big stars competed on this event, and many fans are calling this the best set of WSU DVD tapings yet.

Taping one:
Before the show started, Amy Lee & Mickie Knuckles came out to do a moment of silence for fallen indy wrestler Trent Acid. Acid was well liked in the northeast scene. Afterwards, Amy Lee plugged the efforts of long-time Trent Acid fan, Belinda, who was taking up donations for the Acid Fund.

Daizee Haze d. Cherry Bomb after a tiger suplex in a match where both wrestlers were making their WSU debuts.

WSU Tag Team Title Match
(c) The Cosmo Club (Cindy Rogers & Jana) w/Brittney Savage & Rick Cataldo d. The Fly Girls (Divina Fly & Niya)
The new rookie upstart tag team, The Fly Girls, looked impressive in their debut, showing off their high flying and striking abilities. However Rogers & Jana, two WSU veterans, proved too strong and smart, and Jana caught Niya with her Jana-Vice (Front facelock submission) for the tap out win.

After this match, Rain & Rain’s Army, of Nikki Roxx, Lacey, Jessicka Havok & Amber O’Neal came out. The Cosmo Club & Rain’s Army met each other in the aisle way, but no incident occurred. Rain’s Army hit the ring and the psychotic Rain led a full blown attack on The Fly Girls. Rain destroyed The Fly Girls. Rain then talked about how she should be WSU World Champion and how she should’ve won the World Title match at the Three Year Anniversary show. Rain then promised that she would defeat Kong tonight and that her charges would all win their matches, guaranteeing a clean sweep. Rain then said Jessicka Havok was up first and this led to…

Uncensored Rumble 3 Qualifier Match
The first person eliminated would enter the Uncensored Rumble first, the person who eliminated the final person on the opposing team would get the coveted last spot in the Rumble
Jessicka Havok/Amber/Lexus/Rick Cataldo d. Sassy Stephanie/Tina San Antonio/Marti Belle/Latasha
Rick Cataldo was eliminated within the first minute of the match, which meant he would have to enter the rumble at number 1, the worst spot to enter the rumble at.

The fan favorite team of Stephanie/The Belle’s Saints/Latasha, worked really well together and it looked like they would be sweeping the match. It eventually came down to Jessicka Havok vs the entire team of Stephanie/Belle’s Saints/Latasha. However, Rain’s Army enforcer Jessicka Havok went nuts. The former WSU tag champion, returning to WSU, destroyed the competition with a series of power moves, lastly eliminating Sassy Stephanie after a brutal must-be-seen-to-be -believed sitout powerbomb to win the match. As a result, Havok earned the last spot in the rumble.

However, right after the match, Rain came to the ring with a pay envelope. It was then shown that Rain had just paid off Jessicka Havok for the last spot in the rumble! Rain was at it again. Always the one to think 10 steps ahead, Rain just guaranteed herself the best spot in the rumble, while her enforcer did all the hard work to earn that spot.

It was announced earlier online that Nicole Matthews could not make the show tonight due to G20 security issues. Apparently, throwing stars are frowned upon by customs.

Internet Exclusive Pre-Show:
* Lilie Mae, Slim Sexy, and James Claxton defeated “Five Star” Amanda Fox, and The Dynasty of Perfection – Amanda Fox is a wrestler to look out for down the road. Very young but already showing lots of potential.

* The Submission Squad defeated The Smurf Nation and Brent Masters – The male members of the Submission Squad got on the mic post match to put over Athena as she made her way out. However, the guys all ran to the back in terror as soon as MsChif made her way down the stairs which led to the first match of the tournament.

Main Show:
1. MsChif defeated Athena via pinfall with the Desecrator to advance to the Semi-Finals of the Tournament – Very strong opening match. The crowd was wowed multiple times by MsChif’s moves and bendability. Athena proved that she could hang with one of the top women in the country.

NCW Femmes Fatales 3 Taping Results: LuFisto, Daffney Return to the Ring

NCW Femmes Fatales returned to action last night in Montreal to film the third volume in its DVD series. The taping saw the in-ring returns of SHIMMER’s LuFisto and TNA Knockout, Daffney for the first time since their respective hiatuses.

LuFisto, who is also the founder of Femmes Fatales, competed in her first match since suffering a stroke in April, against Sara Del Rey. Meanwhile, this was Daffney’s first match back since that now infamous dark match with new Knockout, Rosie Lottalove at an Impact taping in April. Daffney suffered a bruised sternum and was only recently cleared to wrestle as announced by TNA President, Dixie Carter.

Full results from last night’s show below courtesy of reader John Hyperion:

Pre-Show
* Angie Skye def. Missy. Short match, but both of these women came across as very solid in the ring, especially for pre-show. Angie Skye has about the best gear ever to boot.

* Kira & Moonlight def. Segolene & Eve. Moonlight looks like Tomoka Nakagawa’s Canadian twin, and wrestles a bit like it too.

Main Show
1. Portia Perez (w/ Nicole Matthews) def. PJ Tyler with a handful of tights. Portia Perez started off the show by legit making a little boy in the front row cry. Outstanding.

2. Xandra Bale & Kacey Brooks def. Anastasia Ivy & Evilyn Fox with double Tornado DDTs. Xandra Bale can really, really go. I’d expect any fans of Shantelle Taylor/Taylor Wilde would get a kick out of her demeanor and athleticism.

3. Anna Minnoushika (w/ Madmoiselle Rachelle) def. Sabrina Kyle via SMASHING. Anna has an awesome faux white tiger skin ring jacket, which somehow managed to add to how intimidating she is.

Exclusive: First Ever Wrestlicious Champion Glory Speaks on Winning the Wrestlicious Crown

On this week’s episode of Wrestlicious TakeDown, the promotion crowned its first champion in Glory aka independent wrestler Christie Ricci. Glory took the crown in a hard-fought bout — perhaps the best match produced yet by Wrestlicious — against fellow indy veteran, Rain, known in the promotion as Felony.

Hot on the heels of the episode airing, we caught up with Glory to discuss how she feels about being the first ever Wrestlicious Champion.

First of all, congratulations on being the first ever Wrestlicious Champion. How does it feel?
Glory: It’s exciting. Wrestlicious, I’ve been so excited to be part of it so it’s really an honor just to be able to represent the company. The match I had with Rain [Felony], I thought it was an excellent match and to be able to beat a competitor like that, it’s always exciting.

Most of the Wrestlicious footage was filmed some time ago and the champion has been kept a secret. Was it hard for you to keep it under wraps?
Glory: [Laughs]. Not really. Goodness, we filmed, I think it was August 2008. Almost two years ago. So once the filming was done, it was one of those things that you hoped would take off because I really enjoyed the product and working for them but at the same time, I’ve done so many of these pilots/shows that are gonna make TV supposedly that you have one filming for and you never hear about again. So it’s nothing new to do a pilot and say, ‘Alright, that was fun… it was a pay check’, you know? And that’s it, you never really think about it again. Whereas, with Wrestlicious it was a little different, we were hoping that it did take off and something was done with it. At the same time, it’s still a product that is so outlandish and really not accepted so easily in today’s wrestling market that you’re just like, ‘Alright, well that was a fun weekend with the girls. We had a blast!’.

The champion doesn’t receive a belt, rather the ‘Wrestlicious crown’. Do you like this break from convention or would you prefer a title?
Glory: I definitely like the break from the conventional. When I grew up watching pro wrestling, it was all big gimmicks, interesting storylines and big larger-than-life characters and it wasn’t so serious. People try – especially the females – I feel like the females put a lot of emphasis on the seriousness of the athleticism and the sports side. That’s not really one of the reasons that I got into wrestling, even though I do appreciate that side, it’s not what I grew up loving and was so intrigued by. So, I like the break from convention. As far as a belt, it’s not really important. A belt, a crown… whatever. It’s kind of interesting, I was actually a beauty queen. I was Miss Teen Tennessee in high school when I was 17 years old. I still have my crown actually, so I probably have more crowns than I have actual belts.
