More Details on “Wrestlicious”

You’ve seen the ridiculous promo video, but now we’ve got some more info on the new all-women’s wrestling promotion known as Wrestlicious – and no, that’s not a porno title, though I’m sure it would blend in well with Cinemax’s late night lineup. Anywho some bits about the promotion, which is set to debut in … Read more

LMFAO Make Sure You’re Sitting Down…

I think I just had a coronary. Legendary manager, Jimmy Hart has lined up his own women’s wrestling promotion to debut later this year called Wrestlicious. Yes, you read right. New Knockout Already Has Chip on Her Shoulder

She’s only been in the business a few weeks and she’s already acting like a diva (no pun intended)! New TNA Knockout, Jenna Morasca has taken to her MySpace (what else!) with a rant on wrestling fans who have badmouthed her joining TNA. I guess that would apply to us too?

While the whole blog is just a fascinating read (check it out after the cut), here is my favourite part:

I know some people say “mockery” are you talking about wrestling!? Yes I know sometime the storylines in wrestling get little cheesy but that does not take away the sheer athleticism of the people involved. So finally once and for all I took the job because I enjoy wrestling, have major respect for everyone involved, was excited to try something new, and can’t WAIT to get in the ring! So all the haters- suck on that…

What I particularly love here is the creative license taken to paint herself with the same brush as the actual wrestlers. You know… the ones that have trained for years. Worked up through the independents.

Jenna: You’re not Trish Stratus, hell you ain’t even fit to lick Maria’s boots. Once you’ve been in the business for as long as they have, you can start complaining. Whiny diva antics may make good reality television, but you won’t last long in the wrestling business.

PS: Threatening bodyslams? Oh noes! The ‘wrestler’ who can’t wrestle is gonna bodyslam me!

SHIMMER Spotlight: MsChif

mschif1

You know what time it is people! Really? You don’t? Well I’ll clue you in. It’s time your weekly dose of SHIMMER goodness. Every weekend, I’ll be bringing you profiles on the hard hitting ladies of SHIMMER. Everyone from the major players like MsChif to the up and coming rookies like Ashley Lane and Portia Perez. So lets get to the good stuff, guys.

Name: MsChif

Age: Unknown

Entrance Theme: “The Pagan Swords Of Legend” by Hecate Enthroned

Associates: Cheerleader Melissa; Daffney

Finisher(s): Code Green; Desecrator; Obliterator

Accomplishments: ChickFight IV Winner; GCW Light Heavyweight Champion (1 Time); SHIMMER Women Athletes Champion (1 Time, current); Ranked #5 on the PWI Female 50

This week’s SHIMMER Spotlight is dedicated to the queen of the hill, current SHIMMER Women Athletes Champion, MsChif. The veridian maned brawler has fought her way up from obcsurity in the indies to become one of the most critically acclaimed athletes in women’s wrestling today.

Not much is known about MsChif’s life prior to her career in pro wrestling. She originally debuted in Gateway Championship Wrestling, feuding with the likes of Daizee Haze and Nikki Strychnine (which was voted the feud of the year by the promotion). She even managed to win the GCW Light Heavyweight Championship and defended it against Evan Bourne among others.

After leaving GCW, MsChif took to IWA Mid-South to make a name for herself. She rekindled her feud with Daizee Haze, while starting new ones with Mercedes Martinez and Mickie “Moose” Knuckles. As a member of IWA, MsChif picked up several titles, not all exclusive to women. But her big break came in 2005, when she joined the ranks of SHIMMER.

In MsChif’s SHIMMER debut, she took on fan favorite Cheerleader Melissa, and gained a upset victory. This match would be the catalyst to SHIMMER’s most notable feud to date. In Volume 2 of SHIMMER, MsChif lost to Beth Phoenix and during her match on Volume 3 against Lexie Fyfe, Melissa Came to ringside and distracted the diabolical mistress. The two went on to feud for the several volumes, participating in numerous SHIMMER firsts: First Hardcore Match, First Last Woman Standing Match and First Falls Count Anywhere Match. However, MsChif and Melissa made amend to take on The International Homewrecking Crew, forming a tandem known playfully by SHIMMER fans as MelisChif.

When the tournament to name the first ever SHIMMER champion was announced, MsChif was definitely a favorite to win. MsChif won her first tournament match, defeating Lexie Fyfe but lost her semi-final match to relative newcomer Sarah Stock. After a picking up a tag team win against Allison Danger and then champion, Sara Del Rey, MsChif was granted a title match against DelRey in which she became the second ever SHIMMER Champion. She has since defended her title against DelRey, as well as Mercedes Martinez and Jetta. She has also taken to defending her SHIMMER title in big brother promotion, Ring Of Honor in SHIMMER’s off season.

If I had to pick between TNA and WWE for MsChif, I would definately pick TNA where her athletic skills and unique looks would be both welcome and appreciated. However, according to Pro Wrestling Illustrated, MsChif has been named as a “must-sign” by WWE and TNA scout. Alas, only time will tell. Here’s a few vids of  ‘Your Soul’s Tormentor’ to get you familiar. Enjoy!

Jacqueline’s 12 Year Career Comes to End

Sad news on the Knockout front: TNA is fading Jacqueline away from an onscreen role, ending her 12 year career in the major leagues of wrestling.

Since 1997, Jacqueline has managed to stay in the forefront of America’s biggest promotions – from WCW to WWE to TNA. Her shocking longevity only struck me a few days ago, admist speculation as to why she wasn’t present at the Destination X pay per view last Sunday. It’s true to say that Jacqueline’s run is unprecedented considering the average length of a female wrestler’s career.

Not to panic though! Jacqueline hasn’t been fired. As TNA moves her away from television, she will take up the role of agent for the Knockouts division, keeping her in the fold of the company and women’s wrestling for years to come hopefully.

Jacqueline is a former two time Women’s Champion as well as Cruiserweight Champion. Her first Women’s Championship reign ushered in the Women’s Championship that we know today, currently held by Melina.

May I take this time to congratulate Jackie on her amazing career, she truly deserves a round of applause.

In a tribute to her career, we’ll be counting down Jacqueline’s top five matches as voted for by you. Details after the cut.

Sarah Stock To TNA?

TNA Signs ‘Survivor’ Winner & Playboy Covergirl As New Knockout

So, TNA, you don’t want to be like WWE. Here’s a list of things not to do: don’t bash their “Divas” for not being hardcore enough and then compete in bra and panties matches, don’t have most of your roster originate from WWE’s developmental territories, and don’t hire Playboy covergirls. Well, congratulations TNA, you have … Read more

SHIMMER Spotlight: Cheerleader Melissa

cheerleadermelissa1

You know what time it is people! Really? You don’t? Well I’ll clue you in. It’s time your weekly dose of SHIMMER goodness. Every Thursday or Friday, I’ll be bringing you profiles on the hard hitting ladies of SHIMMER. Everyone from the major players like MsChif to the up and coming rookies like Ashley Lane and Portia Perez. So lets get to the good stuff, guys.

Name: Cheerleader Melissa

Aliases: Raisha Saeed

Age: 26

Entrance Theme: “#1 Da Woman” by Tricky

Finisher(s): Curb Stomp; Air Raid Crash; Kudo Driver

Accomplishments: APW Future Champion (2 times); Chickfight 5 and 7 Winner; Chickfight Transatlantic Champion; Ranked #28 on the PWI Female 50; TNA Knockout

Okay, so I cheated a bit with this one as Cheerleader Melissa is already a part of TNA’s roster as Raisha Saeed, but she deserves to be recognized for the gimmick that brought her to the dance: The Cheerleader.

Unbeknownst to many, Melissa is a second generation wrestler. Picking up the business from her dad, Melissa started out as a valet and had her first match at the tender age of 17. Ever since she’s been a force to be reckoned with. After being trained by the likes of Christopher Daniels and Bryan Danielson, Melissa trained in Japan and The UK honing her skill. After a name for herself on the independent circuit, the fierce beauty joined the ranks of SHIMMER.

Melissa made her SHIMMER debut on Volume 1 in a losing effort against MsChif. This match sparked a rivalry that spread over several volumes of SHIMMER as well as other promotions. However on Volume 8 the rivals put their differences aside to take on common enemies, The Minnesota Homewrecking Crew (Lacey and Rain). Although  the lost, the two decided to remain a team and went on to gain several victories. During her tenure in SHIMMER, Melissa also wrestled a match on Sunday Night Heat against Victoria under her real name: Melissa Anderson

As of late Melissa has been competing in TNA as the mysterious Syrian manager of  Awesome Kong. I would personally love to see Raisha go bye-bye and see CM make a debut. I was never a fan of the Saeed character and the fake accent. I would even like to see her on ECW, taking on the newly extreme Natalya and Katie Lea.

So what do guys say? Lose the burqa? Stick with Kong? Get extreme? None of the above? Sound off in the comments. As usual, here’s a few vids:

PS: Make sure you watch the last vid. The spot at 1:48 is SICK!

SHIMMER Spotlight: Eden Black

You know what time it is people! Really? You don’t? Well I’ll clue you in. It’s time your weekly dose of SHIMMER goodness. Every Friday, I’ll be bringing you profiles on the hard hitting ladies of SHIMMER. Everyone from the major players like MsChif to the up and coming rookies like Ashley Lane and Portia Perez. So lets get to the good stuff, guys.

Name: Eden Black

Age: 28
Aliases: ‘ The Jezebel ‘
Entrance Theme: “Pure Rock Fury” by Clutch
Finisher(s): Garden of Eden (Triangle Choke); Blaxploitation (Crucifix Powerbomb); The Eden Project (Wheelbarrow Suplex)
Accomplishments: Real Quality Wrestling Women’s Champion (1 Time)

Eden Black dresses like the boys and she plays like one too. This flame-haired  tomboy is as notorious for her distinct choice in ring gear, as she is for her smashmouth style in the ring. Actually, her punk rock style and baggy pants are reminiscent of another redheaded veteran(Take a wild guess).

She was a smash hit in the UK, wrestling big names like Lexie Fyfe and Wesna Busic. She also advanced to the finals of the first ever ChickFight Tournament, losing to Cheerleader Melissa. After coming to a draw against Allison Danger in a title defense, Danger recruited black as a regular in SHIMMER.

Black took SHIMMER by storm, picking up wins over likes of Rain, Amber O’Neal and The Minnesota Homewrecking Crew. She was even booked in a tournament to name the first ever SHIMMER champion. Unfortunately, she was eliminated in the first round by SHIMMER veteran Lacey. her last SHIMMER match to date teamed her with Daizee Haze and MsChif to take on The International Homewrecking Crew in a winning effort.

SHIMMER Spotlight: Lacey

Over the last week I’ve been hooking you guys up with the 411 on everyone’s favorite all-girl wrestling promotion, SHIMMER. I’m glad you guys are enjoying these ladies in action. Support them and buy the DVDs if you can. Now that that’s out of the way, it’s time for one last(?) SHIMMER Spotlight.

Name: Lacey
Age: 25
Aliases: The Lovely Lacey
Entrance Theme: “The Game” by Disturbed
Finisher(s): TKO; Implant DDT; Lungblower
Accomplishments: FLWA Women’s Champion (1 time); MIW Women’s Champion (1 time); NWA Midwest Women’s Champion (1 time)
Years Active: 2000 – 2008

I’m about to make a statement that is really gonna piss some people off. Lacey is possibly THE best heel in women’s wrestling ever. Oh yeah, I went there. Anyone who has seen this young lady work the crowd would be hard pressed to disagree. Sure Beth Phoenix can play the powerful, dominant heel and Maryse can be the sexy snob, but no one in WWE or TNA can make people love to hate them like Lacey.

Don’t let her pretty face fool you. From insulting the fans at ringside to spitting water on them (and not in the cool HHH way), Lacey encompasses what it means to be a heel. I’ve even seen her rip up some money (isn’t that illegal?) that a smart-ass fan threw at her.

SHIMMER Spotlight: Daizee Haze

I’ve gotten a few comments from you readers here at Diva Dirt. It seems you would like to see more of SHIMMER Spotlight. YAY! Ahem, so I bring to you, my friends, the second installment of SHIMMER Spotlight.

Name: Daizee Haze
Age: 25
Aliases: The Haze, Shelirious
Entrance Theme: “Sensi” by Long Beach Dub Allstars
Finisher(s): Mind Trip (Snapmere Driver); Heart Punch; Yakuza Kick; Daizee Cutter (Stunner)
Accomplishments: APW Future Legend Champion (1 time); Chickfight 6 winner; NWA Midwest Womens Champion (2 times); Ranked # 15 on PWI Female 50 last year.

They say that dynamite comes in small packages. That has never been more true than in the case of Daizee Haze. Pound for pound, this flower toting phenom is one of the toughest girls in SHIMMER.

In the 7 years since her debut, Daizee has wrestled in Ring Of Honor, TNA and a whole mess of midwest promotions. All while spreading love with her peace-loving, pot smoking hippie gimmick. She’s even been a valet to Matt Sydal or as you may know him Evan Bourne.

While she’s slight in stature, Daizee has had some of the most exciting matches in women’s wrestling. She’s gone head to head with Mickie “Moose” Knuckles, Lacey, Cheerleader Melissa aka Raisha Saeed and current Knockouts Champion, Awesome Kong.

SHIMMER Spotlight: Ashley Lane

As a frequent visitor of this site I noticed something that I found strange. A lot of you guys are not familiar with SHIMMER. For shame people. SHIMMER is the cream of the crop of women’s wrestling. Anyhoo, now that I’m an intern here at Diva Dirt, I have the chance to help you see the error of your ways(Lol, just kidding). Without further ado, I present you with what I hope to be a new staple of this site, SHIMMER Spotlight.

Name: Ashley Lane
Age: 22
Aliases: Lexi Lane, Madison Rayne, ‘Sexi Lexi’
Entrance Theme: “Curse of Curves” by Cute Is What We Aim For / “Misery Business” by Paramore
Finisher: Dys-Lexi-a (Reverse STO) / Curse of Curves (with Nevaeh) (STO by Nevaeh & Yakusa Kick by Ashley)
Accomplishments: 2 time Ohio Championship Wrestling Women’s Champion ; 1 time Shimmer Tag Team Champion (with Nevaeh) – first

At first glance Ashley Lane may look like just another Diva Search Reject, but think again. This pint-sized dynamo is half of the SHIMMER tag champs and one of the best female wrestlers on the indy circuit today.

Ashley has spent the last few years honing her craft on the circuit against accomplished wrestlers such as ODB. All her hard work paid off, as she managed to score a spot in SHIMMER, and eventually earn the tag team titles with her partner Nevaeh.

If Ashley looks familiar to you its probably because she recently had her first televised match.

The company filmed next week’s Impact last night which will air … Read more

Inked: A Study in Diva Tattoos

This week’s WWE.com Diva Dish mentioned Candice Michelle‘s newest tattoo, and this little bit inspired me to investigate which former and current Divas and Knockouts have their own selection of body art. Thus, a blog post was born! Below I’ve listed those I could find:

Angelina Love

TNA’s Angelina Love has four tattoos, all pointing towards an angel fixation. She has:

• an angel on her hip
• her former ring name “Angel” scripted on her arm in Old English style lettering
• an angel on the back of her left shoulder
• the Chinese symbol for “angel” on her lower back, surrounded by a set of wings.

Why so angel-obsessed, Angelina?

“I have always had a fascination with angels. I love how they look, I love their innocence, and I love what they represent.”

• • • • • • • •

Ashley Massaro

Former WWE Diva Ashley has plenty of ink:

• a butterfly on her hip
• two black-and-pink nautical stars above the elbows on the back of her arms (her brother has a matching pair on his arms)
• Chinese lettering down the small of her back
• more Chinese lettering down each side of her torso, reading “Trust No One”
• an illustration of a dragon wrapped around the lettering on the left side of her torso.

Review: TNA Knocked Out

Next month, TNA celebrates one year of it’s much celebrated Knockouts division with the release of ‘Knocked Out’, a DVD featuring all of the Knockouts including recently departed Gail Kim and Salinas. It was at Bound For Glory in October 2007 that the division was launched with a 10 woman gauntlet match to determine the first Knockout Champion and this DVD comes precisely one year from that historic event. One could argue that it’s too soon to release a Knockouts DVD but given the reception from both critics and fans alike for this division, this feels like the perfect capitalisation on a hot subject.

From key Knockouts such as ODB and the Beautiful People, the DVD even features the likes of Lauren and SoCal Val, all this interspersed with seminal matches from the division’s one year history including the complete trilogy of matches between Gail Kim and Awesome Kong as well as the Makeover Battle Royal and more. It seems the DVD’s lengthy running time is more made up of these matches than actual Knockout chapters, the likelihood is that the type of fan this DVD aims to reach are the fans who have seen these matches already; it does make for a nice little compilation nonetheless. The DVD’s introduction features comments from the likes of TNA President, Dixie Carter as well as wrestlers Christian Cage, Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett which I felt was a nice touch to add to the legitimacy of the Knockouts division – having praise heaped upon it from top tier stars. Carter’s presence on the DVD particularly stood out to me as she touches upon my thoughts, the idea of a female president of a wrestling company. Carter comes across extremely passionate, protective and supportive of this division and so she should; in a male dominated sport Carter is in a position to promote talented women over men and she speaks with conviction in her support of the Knockouts.
