WWE lists Fire & Desire on their “breakout” stars for 2020

WWE recently posted their “5 Superstars who will break out in 2020” on their List This segment. They paired Fire & Desire together as a tag team to watch out for the new year. Their close bond was a focus throughout the mention with their friendship dating back to Tough Enough.

It was explained that 2019 was a “huge year” for the team which many fans may disagree with. Last year started off strong as the team would battle Asuka with Mandy Rose getting a SmackDown Women’s Championship match at Fastlane.

After that loss, however, the downhill slope would continue through the rest of the year. This includes a potential WrestleMania match that was scrapped as seen on Total Divas that would have involved Sonya Deville (or Mandy Rose) in a match against Asuka.

For the back half of 2019, Fire & Desire would continue to be utilized but found themselves on the losing end of many matches. This would halt any prior upward rising to the top they may have seen earlier in the year. The irony in them being considered potential breakout stars in 2020 is that in recent weeks they have been hinting at a break-up.

Also on this list was Dakota Kai. Kai has had a very emotional year as she spent the majority of 2019 on the sidelines due to a torn ACL injury. She would return in late September and had a mixture of wins and losses. Her biggest moment was when she turned heel at NXT TakeOver: WarGames and this turn could potential push her momentum forward in the new year. With Rhea Ripley being the new NXT Women’s Champion, Kai could certainly be a viable opponent.
